"The siege of sarajevo is officially at an end. A long and brutal winter is over.

A thousand years will pass and the world will forget— neither what was done to Sarajevo nor the heroic resistance and courage of its citizens.

 

Sarajevo will forever be a symbol of civilization assaulted, civiliza¬tion unbroken and civilization unbreakable. For that, the world owes a debt to the people of Sarajevo for their example of dignity and courage.

 

Terrible and great things happened in this city over the recent years.


What the international community gave to the city was vital. And what the city gave to the world was even greater.
